As I look outside, I see
I see bikes, bottles, people
I see cars, horns, music
I see culture, love, hope, & noise
I see a car
I see a boy in the car
The boy with fair skin and dark brown hair
returned my stare
In front of the car I see a women
drinking a clear liquid within a clear bottle
she looks over, she smiles
the man sitting next to her has colorful arms
he reaches for the steering wheel
the boys eyes return to mine
the man slowly releases his foot on the accelerator
the women mouth opens and releases a scream
the child looks forward with a serene smile and
peacefulness beneath his eyes
the women cries--
a clash and a boom is released
Techniques
Consonance- "I see bikes, bottles, people".
Sibilance- see, she
Onomatopoeia- a clash and a boom is released
Euphony- a serene smile and peacefulness beneath his eyes
I read for two hours and I was doing my research paper for an hour
Kaylin I really enjoyed this poem. When I first saw the title In New Orleans, I thought about Mardi Gras, or the city itself, but the way the car crash was the subject was neat. I almost didn't see the crash coming but when you said "drinking a clear liquid in a clear bottle," I almost knew something was going to happen. I almost thought the boy in the car was going to be some attractive guy that the girl feel in love with as well. Overall great poem & great use of your techniques.
ReplyDeleteKaylin, that was so unexpected. I saw a car crash in New Orleans one time! I like how you said "a man with colorful arms" instead of just saying he had tattoos. I love reading your posts!
