Human Nature and its Faults

"Everyone is capable of lying, betrayal, and violence, which are basic parts of human nature."

This is very true and applies to about every character in Shakespeare's Macbeth. For starters, King Duncan killed a man for lying to him. Duncan exemplifies violence and the man he vanquishes represents  lying. The next character that relates to this quote is the three witches, they purposely stir up "hurly burly", so Macbeth can go on a killing rage. The three witches represent violence and betrayal. The next character that applies to this quote is named Lady Macbeth. She takes on all three of these derogatory terms. She lies when being astonished that duncan is dead, she betrays Duncan, and causes king duncan to die. 

The next character that applies to this quote is Macduff. Yet he does have a reason to get an army of ten-thousand to seize Macbeth's castle, but he still carries the characteristic of violence, especially at the end when Macduff beheads Macbeth. Speaking of Macbeth he applies to all of these characteristics as well. Starting with betrayal. Macbeth betrays King Duncan and Banquo. He kills both of his friends behind their back which also has violence and lying in them. Macbeth also kills Macduff's entire family which is pretty harsh with violence.

This famous passage sets an ominous mood and kind of sets up the play. From this we become aware of the witches relationship knowing that they are familiar with one another, and we know that they are planning to meet up next. They tell us that the witches are going to meet again when all of the tumultuous chaos is done. We know this because of Shakespeare's Witch 2 says "When the hurly burly's done, When the battle's lost and won. And we figure out that they are going to meet with Macbeth when witch three says "There to meet with Macbeth. " 

Then the witches come together and say "Fair foul, and foul is fair". My interpretation of this is that good and evil are hard to tell apart. This would also apply to Duncan and how he trusted Macbeth and was talking to Macbeth about how it is hard to find trustworthy people, and at the time Macbeth was thinking of killing him. Which is dramatic Irony for us, because Macbeth was the one that ended up killing him.

1. Casablanca- This movies is maybe one of the most classic best movies I ever watched. I really like everything about it: the script, character development, plot, and setting. It is just such a classic love story, and probably one of the most quotable movies in the world along with the Godfather. 

2. Omar- I saw this movie about a month ago at living-room theaters in Portland Oregon. By the way it is the best movie theatre in the world you can order key lime pie and you can have them bring it in the audotorium while you are watching the movie. Anyway, this movie is a foreign film, and it takes place in Pakistan and it is another love story, but also has a not-so happily ever after like casablanca. I thought the plot was really interesting and there was a lot of dialogue which I really enjoyed. 

3. The Godfather- "I am going to give them an offer they can't refuse". This movie is maybe the best movie in the world. The Godfather is based on Mobsters in New York in the 40's, I love mob movies because i love the social dynamics of the whole Mob. 

4. Her-  This movie was surprisingly good I also saw this one in Living Room Theatres. I really liked the plot and how technology could take over our world and cease human interaction. This movie is based in the near-future and is about this guy named Theodore who falls in love with an OS which is this sphere like object that you stick in your ear you it will talk to you, kind of like an earphone without the wire. Anyways the cultural aspect of this movie as well is really quite intriguing. 

5. Gone With the Wind- Scarlett O'Hara is maybe my favorite character in any film ever. I love this movie, it takes place during the civil war and it is just her adventure through it. I will warn you though about 4 people about six people die in this movie, making it pretty depressing but the end is so irritatingly great.

Power isn't happiness

In the second quote that Dr.D gave us it is states "If you are in a position of power, you are happy. I disagree with this quote for multiple reasons. The first one is just because you are high in the social class hierarchy or political hierarchy doesn't mean your life is full filing. Everybody has problems and tends to be the people who have an abundant amount of stress layed on them. Which tends to be the people in the higher part of the hierarchy because they have so much stress put on them. There is also a  whole physiology study on how people are perfectly happy with not people in power, and are full-filled with their quaint modest life. Just because you are in power doesn't make you happy, it is people who stand by you and interact with you that make your life-fullflilling. This refers to Macbeth long need for power, and how his wife will not be happy without becoming Queen of Scotland. 

Ambition is the key to success

For the first quote it that was presented to us it stated "Ambition is a positive desirable trait in a person". I completely agree with this, ambition is definitely something everyone should acquire throughout their life towards a goal. One time during summer two years ago I really wanted new bedroom furniture. My was all scratched up pink and child-like. I found the one that I wanted and it was a lot of money like $700 and I never saved up anything like before. So, overtime I began accumulating money whether it was from babysitting jobs, mooching from my dad, or doing chores. Eventually, I raised enough money to buy the furniture and I was so happy because it was something I did all by myself. Ambition also has to do with mental capability, meaning whether or not if you have that I think I can attitude towards life. This relates to Macbeth in the passage that we read today in class. Now, it is not in the most positive light, but it still refers to what I am saying. When Macbeth's wife is trying to convince the Macbeth to do it, but he doesn't think he can, but with enough encouragement and influence from Macbeh's wife he believes he can do it, and we all know that he ends up doing so. So his ambitious goal is succeeded.

Rolling Stones: Paint it Black

Many songs today have little to no meaning to them, they are mostly about sex, drugs, and alcohol. so if I ever want to dissect a song and find a profound message I always revert to my 80's, 70's, and 60's playlist. I have been listening to Rolling Stones lately and when Dr. deGravelle's assigned us this blog, I immediately reverted back to Paint It Black.

In this song there are many metaphors and symbolic lines in this song. Overall, I think that this song is about someone facing depression because of the loss of a love one. The technique that I used to find the meaning of the song is sections that tell a story and symbolize something like the piece below:
"I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes."  This talking about how he sees a girl that  remind him of the past girl, and he has to keep looking at her until he realizes that it is not her.
"I see a line of cars and they're all painted black" Mick Jagger referencing to the hearse and the line of black vehicles behind it
"With flowers and my both never to come back" This is talking about all the flowers that people give for the funeral, and his companion dying and never returning.
"I could not foresee this thing happening to you" He never imagined of her sudden death.
"If I look hard enough into the setting sun, my love will laugh with me before the morning comes" This is referring to heaven.
Another thing that Paint It Black could mean is that he is painting everything black symbolizing he emotions. Depression, is often personified with dark colors because of sadness, Mick Jagger is painting everything black because he is depressed. This especially supports this idea once he says
"No colors anymore I want them to turn black". You find a repeating pattern of Mick Jagger starting many of his line with "I".

I spent 1 hour touching up my rough draft, 1 hour and 30 minutes spent doing the discussion questions and reading The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian. I also spent 30 minutes in class reading.

I spent  3 hours and 25 minutes working on my rough draft, and I spent an hour reading the book that you gave us, and I spent 1 hour working on the responses that you assigned us to the book. With a total of 5 hours and 55 minutes.

Research Paper

I feel confident about my point in the rough draft, because I feel like argue you it enough to believe it to be true. I am concerned that I am going to repeat myself, and that the paper is going to to turn boring. There are only some many points you argue with my topic and thesis, and I think that I did it over-boardingly. It was really easy developing the paper, because of all the notecards, but it was really hard on trying to reach the full four pages, and they only way I accomplished that was by repeating myself, or thats how I felt. I like to lengthen my rough draft, without feeling like I repeated myself, and have it a comfortable length. Dr.deGravelles, I would like you to focus on fluency in my paper, and make sure everything flows well. 

Super Healthy Ingredients To Add To Your Oatmeal!

Over the 3 day break that we had due to the snow, I had lots of time on my hands. My mom decided not to go to the grocery store, because it was too crowded and we had everything at home. She was wrong. All we had was three boxes of oatmeal, some chips, can goods, some other food in the fridge. As a result, I ate oatmeal every morning, and sometimes for lunch. I soon got tired of the same oatmeal, so I looked up some add ons to give it different flavors. The three that I show below, were the ones that tasted the best in my opinion. 

1. Cacao Sweet Nibs- Not only does this ingredient taste amazing in oatmeal, but it is so healthy for you! Chocolate in its purest form is one of the powerful super-foods. Cacao sweet Nibs are literally just the Cacao bean broken into pieces, and these beans are packed with anti-oxidants.  Since these beans taste like dark chocolate, the oatmeal taste like a dessert, instead of a super-food packed meal!
2. Maca Powder- Maca powder is delicious! If you make stir-fry put this into it, it taste amazing. Ok, in oatmeal Maca powder is really easy to stir into it, Maca powder is also packed with mineral, amino acids, and energy boosters. 
3. Golden Berries- Golden Berries are sour, and contain carotenes and Bioflavonoids are known for strengthening your immune system, and reducing inflammation. Golden Berries, also are known for containing vitamin A, C, protein, and phosphorous. 

Dehumanization

My topic is about how Hitler dehumanized Hebrews through propaganda and the Nuremberg Laws. This event was always so interesting to me, because Episcopal never taught us anything that happened in the 19th century, with the exception of 6th grade in science when Mrs.Perret explained about the first rocket launch. So for a while I will admit I had none, to very little knowledge of the holocaust, but now I know much of it. I have learned about the concentration camps and how many people died in the Holocaust (1.3 million). Hitler thought that the Hebrews were to blame for their falling economy, and the lost of World War One. Once, he was let out of prison in 1930, became the superior of Germany right after the previous superior died, he then went on campaigns telling the public, persuading them that Hebrews were below humans. He persuaded children through the use of media, comic books, and art that Hebrews were mean and vengeful. In 1935, he finally came up with 435 laws (give or take) discriminating against Hebrews. These set of laws separated Hebrews from society, they were not allowed to have intercourse with people out of the Jewish religion, they were not allowed to drive in their own cars, and were also enforced to sow the star of david on their clothing so that it was easy for Germans to distinguish if it was a Hebrew or not. In the eyes of public they were now completely separated from society, they were now pariahs, outcast in their own home. The public then truly believed that Hebrews were not human they were just as good as dogs. 

Humans have segregated one another since the 300 AD, whether it was race, ethnic group, or religion. In 1931 Adolf Hitler came in to reign, defacing Hebrews of their human rights. He dehumanized Hebrews, so the question I'm going to answer is how. How did Hitler dehumanize Jews? He used the combination of powerful propaganda & the Nuremberg Laws to enforce his opinions of the people of Germany on the Hebrews. The Hebrews in result were below dogs, they were the destroyers of Germany, and would be the reason for Germany falling as a country in Hitler's and the rest of Germans eyes, even though Hebrews made up than 1% less of the population.  This matter interest many in a variety of ways. I always had this distorted infatuation of the Holocaust. I want to know why the people thought it was right, why Hitler thought it was ok to kill 1.3 million people .2 of those children. Propaganda,  the Nuremberg Laws and Hitlers persuasive campaigning are to claim for the torture of Hebrews. It persuaded children to hunk that Hebrews were below them, the reason in fall of the economy, and the loss of world war 2. This is truly a ghastly event, and hasn't brought me much solace since I started researching this topic.

What is your favorite book and why?

For christmas I received the book It by Alexa Chung. I immediately devoured the book within the day, astounded by the books personality, truth,  and original voice, it's hard not to like. The book is basically is a style manual on what inspires her to be the stylist she is today. She has from Audrey Hepburn to the Rolling Stones of two of her many inspirations. Her book doesn't only talk about clothes, it talks about the generations and how much and the different thing within them.

It is really just an enjoyable book to read, because its like a chick-flick book almost. It talks about heart-breaks, diets, and other feline like things. There are so many interesting artsy pictures in there its almost overwhelming. I love this book, and I hope everybody reads it.

How the Nuremberg Laws affect the Hebrews during World War 2 in Poland

My topic started off with how the discrimination between Hebrews and Germans, affected the Hebrews, then I realized how broad it was. So, then I narrowed my topic down to one set of laws, the time period, and where. At the beginning of the year I thought this topic was very interesting, and I still think it is, until I realized how many other people were doing there project on the Holocaust as well. I then wanted to make mine different so that is when I started narrowing down my topic, so I would have a little diversity compared to others. 

My process, right now is to include more databases in my research, and find more primary sources. I know I can find more primary sources, like some of Picasso's work, but I need to make the effort to do it. Yesterday, Dr. deGravelles mentioned google scholar, and that sounds like a great way to help me with my research.
